Novel Methods for the Visualization and Analysis of Functional Maps in Cortex

Flat Maps 35 gradients from ring-stimulus phase data and the gradients from wedge-stimulus phase data. The signs of the resulting matrix (image) entries give information about the local cortical map orientation. Due to high levels of noise in the measured phase data (Figure 16), the calculated visual field sign map does not look like the cartoon visual field sign map (ideal model or atlas, not deformed; please refer to section 4.5) in the figure.
