the fovea. This phenomenon is called cortical magnification. The cortical magnification factor
states how many millimeters of cortex correspond to 1º of visual angle at any given eccentric-
ity. Therefore, the cortical magnification factor describes the scale of the retinotopic mapping
[Hurdal and McElwain, 1995 #20].
