7.3.1.6 Energy Series
Figure 56 shows energy series. The image at the top displays the course of the best total en-
ergy as well as the corresponding weighted components during the very-low-resolution regis-
tration process. As mentioned before, the images have a size of 33 pixels x 33 pixels in the
current implementation. The other two images show the same functions but for the low-
resolution case (65 pixels x 65 pixels), and for the high-resolution case (129 pixels x 129 pix-
els).
The energy values were recorded after each test deformation (called warp in the figure).
For each relevant control point, there are six test deformations (warps) done during one itera-
tion in the current implementation of mrFindBorders. If the total energy had increased after a
test deformation, the energies not for this case, but for the best total energy case, were re-
corded. Therefore, the total energy will never increase, but a single weighted energy compo-
nent may increase. In fact, the weighted deformation energy usually increases (starting at zero
if the initial displacement fields had only one constant value).
