XV
·
lateral fissure The cleft on the lateral surface of the brain that separates the temporal
and frontal lobes. [Purves, et al., 1997 #1], [Duvernoy, 1991 #4]
·
frontal lobe One of the four lobes of the brain; includes all the cortex that lies ante-
rior to the central sulcus and superior to the lateral fissure. [Purves, et al., 1997 #1]
·
parietal lobe The lobe of the brain that lies between the frontal lobe anteriorly, and
the occipital lobe posteriorly. [Purves, et al., 1997 #1]
·
temporal lobe The hemispheric lobe that lies inferior to the lateral fissure. [Purves,
et al., 1997 #1]
·
occipital lobe The posterior lobe of the cerebral hemisphere; primarily devoted to
vision. [Purves, et al., 1997 #1]
Other Terms
·
ROI Region of interest; in this document, the term ROI also refers to a ROI overlay
(or ROI coordinates), which marks the actual region of interest.
·
VOI Volume of interest
·
NaN Not a number; e.g., in MATLAB used for 0/0; NaN multiplied with or added to
any number yields NaN
·
Phase-wedge image image (2D matrix; flattened representation of the functional ac-
tivity on the cortical surface) of phase values for an experiment with a flickering rotat-
ing wedge visual stimulus; the term can also be used for the corresponding atlas image
·
Phase-ring image image (2D matrix; flattened representation of the functional activ-
ity on the cortical surface) of phase values for an experiment with a flickering expand-
ing or collapsing ring visual stimulus; the term can also be used for the corresponding
atlas image
